How to Properly Launder your Bra

We all know how expansive a bra can be. Bras are a delicate item of clothing that requires gentle care. How long should a bra last? A bra should last between 6 months to a year depending on the type of bra. It's important to wash your bra frequently because of perfumes, body lotions, and sweat. I'm going to share with you how I learn to protect my investment with the proper ways to clean and care for my bras to make them last longer!

Different types of bras

There are many different types and styles of bras. Lacy, pushup bras, sports bras, bralettes, and bras without underwire. We have to know how to care for each bra that we own because as easy as it sounds putting your bras in the washer machine can ruin that expansive bra. However many of these you can throw them in a washer machine and put it on a gentle cycle. I'm going to give you instructions for both hand washing and machine washing methods. Personally, my favorite is the hand-washing method.

Hand Washing Method

You'll need:

  • Mild Detergent
  • Clean dry towel
Directions:

  1. You want to pour a small amount of mild detergent into a sink full of lukewarm water.
  2. Next, submerge in the water, let it soak for a while (5 Minutes).
  3. Drain the soapy water out of the sink, refill it with cold clean water. Rinse the fabric.
  4. Drain and refill the water again until all of the detergents have rinsed out.
  5. Gently press and squeeze any excess water from the bra. DON'T wringing it!
  6. Lay the bra on a clean towel, and gently squeeze it to absorb the remaining water from the bra.
  7. Lastly allow the bra to air dry completely.
Washing Machine Method

You'll need:

  • Mesh laundry bag
  • Mild detergent
  • clean dry towel

Directions:

  1. Place the bras in a mesh laundry bag and zip it closed.
  2. Place the bag in the washing machine with cold water, and add the detergent.
  3. Run the machine with the most gentle cycle that your machine offers.
  4. Once the cycle has finished remove the bra from the laundry bag and place it on the clean dry towel and pat dry.
  5. Remove the bra from the towel and allow it to air dry completely.

You have learned how to properly clean your bra but now it's important to know how often you should wash your bras! So you don't need to wash your bra every single day but instead, wash them after 2-4 wearings and allowing each bra to rest in between each wearing.

I'm not a bra expert, but I hope these tips were helpful! (There is nothing to be embarrassed about!)😉
